The office of Sen. Orrin G. Hatch, R-Utah, issued the following news release:

Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas), Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and 15 Senate colleagues have introduced a bill that would place a moratorium on further implementation of the $2.6 trillion health law until lawsuits over its constitutionality are resolved.

The Save Our States Act (S.281) the senators filed comes after federal Judge Roger Vinson’s ruling last week in favor of a lawsuit filed by Utah and 25 other states that found the individual insurance mandate in ObamaCare to be unconstitutional. It was the second consecutive ruling by a federal judge siding with the states against the new health law.

“It makes absolutely no sense to force the states to shoulder the costly financial burdens imposed by this law that has already been found to be unconstitutional by two federal courts and very well could be declared null and void upon further court review,” said Hatch, who was the first U.S. Senator to argue that the individual insurance mandate was unconstitutional.

“Most Utahns and other Americans have made it clear that they do not support this Washington takeover of our nation’s health care system, and they don’t want millions of taxpayer dollars wasted on its implementation until the courts have rendered a final judicial decision on the legality of the health care law.”

The Save Our States (SOS) Act would ensure that all states are on equal footing and that no more taxpayer dollars are spent implementing a bill two federal courts have already found unconstitutional. Since the health care reform bill passed, the Administration has released over 6,000 pages of regulations instructing states, businesses, and individuals how to comply with this law.

The bill would delay provisions and new regulations of the Obama health care law not in effect on the date of enactment until final judicial resolution of the lawsuits. The bill does not suspend features of the law already in effect on the date of enactment.

In addition to Hutchison and Hatch, Sens. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Dan Coats (R-Ind.), Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), John Ensign (R-Nev.), James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Mike Johanns (R-Neb.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), James Risch (R-Idaho), Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) also support the bill.
